Gretna Green to Carnforth

Read Time:52 Second

This was a day of two halves. Rolling into England from Scotland the hills, although constant, weren’t too steep or too long and the weather was windy but dry. I put in a good stint, knocking off 30 miles before stopping for a coffee and a bite to eat.

Things got a bit more serious on the edges of the Lake District as I arrived at Shap Fell, north of Kendal. This was a long climb, but stunning. It would have been much more stunning had the rain held off and the wind not got up in my face making riding extremely challenging. My photos were limited due to spending a lot of time swearing at hills, the weather, god, just about everything.

According to Garmin I did over 6000ft of climbing today, 1890 meters. That’s almost the height of Mount Ventoux. Except this time I was carrying luggage.

Tomorrow is another challenging ride down to Warrington – only 64 miles but a couple of interesting looking ascents and a stronger wind forecast.
