Planning for JOGLE (John O’Groats to Lands End)

Read Time:2 Minute, 4 Second

In April 2023 I am planning to do JOGLE – to cycle from John O’Groats to Lands End. I have been using Komoot to plan the tour at a high level and then Google Maps to give me the actual distances and find suitable accommodations (Komoot tends to make bad choices!).

You can find my Komoot Collection here for reference;

I will be taking camping gear including a couple of new purchases against the cooler weather in Scotland in April. I somehow feel that my usual south of France kit wont be man enough to keep out the cold.

I will be investing in a new sleeping bag – the slightly chunkier version of the Sea To Summit Spark SpI which I already have, the Spark SpII. The SpI is rated at 40 degrees F, whereas the SpII rated to 28 degrees F. Between that and my silk sleeping bag liner, plenty of warm clothes and a mini hot water bottle I reckon I will be fine…

I have also invested in a new jacket for around the campsite, off the bike. The Arc’teryx Cerium Hoody.

I left my prized Mammut waterproof jacket at the foot of Mount Ventoux last year so I have had to replace it with another. This year’s purchase as a replacement is a 7 Mesh Copilot.

I aim to average around 68 miles per day – sometimes less or more depending on terrain and the availability of suitable places to overnight.

The plan has a total of 14 days, 3 wild camps, 4 formal campsites, 5 hotel/B&B stays and one overnight stay with family.

Over more recent trips I have been very lax at blogging whilst on the road – I am hoping to change that for this trip! My new iPhone 14 Pro Max is a more than adequate camera and I will take the GoPro Max for some video capture, so watch this space for more nonsense in the first couple of weeks of April.
