Day 2 of a tour never gets easier. As if the body is saying “Really? You want to do this again? Right now?”
I camped last night on the shore of Loch Naver. By the time I was setting up the sun was going down and the temperature really dropped. I went to bed in most of the clothes I’ve brought with me!
It was worth it to wake up to this view and have coffee and breakfast by the side of the Loch.
Todays ride was planned to be to a campsite in Dingwall, but early afternoon saw me sludging up a huge climb and at the top I decided I needed to be warm tonight. So hotel it is – a cheap one but right on the high street of Dingwall.
The riding today was hard work. There was a cold wind blowing either in my face or across me all day. Three big climbs made the day a little spicy on the legs. One got up to 12% in parts. The countryside was gorgeous though.
I stopped for lunch in Lairg. Cup of coffee from a cafe and some slight anaemic chips from the local chippy.
Moving on for the afternoon, the scenery was much the same, very taxing on the legs but stunning.
