When I woke in my tent I could hear the rain. Checking the forecast I could see it was going to be a tough day. My plan for the day was to get down to Chepstow and hit a hotel to get warm and dry.
The campsite I was in had a shed which doubled as a camp kitchen so I hid from the rain in there and ate a dehydrated beef stew for breakfast.
The original plan was for 79 miles with a fair bit of climbing so I was prepared for a long day. On the second hill of the day the chain hopped off the granny gear and into the spokes – I feared that the derailleur had taken a knock so I re-routed to pass through Ludlow and pop into a bike shop for a second opinion. The guys there were great, sold me a spare hanger, checked the alignment and tweaked the limiter screws to stop it happening again.
Whilst I was there I figured I might as well have a second breakfast.
The rest of the day was just rain, rain and more rain. I arrived at the hotel absolutely drenched and ready for a beer!
